Kona visitors drive to Hilo Town and check out the lovely Hamakua Coast on the way. Then they park at the free Park and Ride lot on Bay Front Drive across from the soccer field. A printable map of the Park and Ride lot will be posted here shortly.

What To Bring

Water Bottle
Please wear comfortable clothes and layers in case it is chilly. (sweater, jacket)
Wear comfortable walking shoes preferably with socks.
Sunscreen,sunglasses and hat are recommended. Binoculars and/or camera are a plus.

In the event of rain, we have raingear available (both ponchos and umbrellas) but we recommend you bring your own if you have it.

What to do: Get on Route 19 and head east to Hilo. On this drive, you will view the lovely Hamakua Coast. It's a breathtaking drive! (Famed in many a Hawaiian song) Once in Hilo, park at the unlimited Free Park and Ride as marked on the map shown here. Hint: Turn right at the Gazebo. Make another right. Park in any of the free Park-n-Ride lots near the Bus Depot. And keep your cellphone charged and on.

What is the Sheldon Chubbs Group Discount?


The Sheldon Chubbs Group Discount, established on February 15, 2008, is a special discount tour rate. This was won by the unreserved and consummate bargaining skills of officer Sheldon Chubbs of the HMCS Vancouver. The Sheldon Chubbs Discount hereforth applies to special groups such as military, non-profit organizations, college fraternities and sororities,senior groups and other organizations who engage in philanthropic or goodwill efforts.
